Once again I was privileged to attend my friend Kim Arnolds 14th annual UK Tarot Conference, held at The Thistle Barbican in London. Kim is the founder and organiser of this event which is a must for anybody, beginner or professional or in between. All you need is a love, passion and enthusiasm for Tarot oh and, of course, the ability to get yourself to London and join us! We had attendees/Speakers from all over the world, e.g. Australia, Canada, USA, Germany and Switzerland to name a few.
As always the inspirational Speakers, Wicca Meier-Spring, Carrie Paris, Steven Bright, Sasha Graham, Kirsten Buchholzer, Andrea Aste, Chloe McCracken, Joanne Watkins and Tero Hynynen, encouraged us in alternative ways of, not only working with our cards, but asked us to allow our imagination free rein. I'm aware that I, for one, tend can be guilty of sticking to tried and trusted methods of working with my cards. However, the Conference never fails to provide many exciting opportunities to experiment and explore different spreads, adapting spreads, the means to "see" certain cards from an alternative perspective, the list goes on......... Picture a child in a sweetie shop told to choose what they want and that's me at the Tarot Conference! Tarot knowledge aplenty allowing our open and inquisitive minds to explore and delve deeper whilst in the company of our "Tarot family."
There is always, always lots of laughter and fun too and time to catch up with old friends and make new ones. I spoke to several people who were joining us for the first time and they all said that they were happy they had taken the plunge to come along on their own as they found everybody so friendly and welcoming. Remember what I said about our "Tarot Family?"
Alhough we are all given a goodie bag on arrival, the selling tables with their lovely sought after Tarot goodies always do a roaring trade with people snapping up the books, cards, etc. that they may have lusted after online and here they are able to be purchased to be drooled over later. Book signings were available too. Poor Steven Bright! He had hoped his unique Tarot Deck, "The Spirit Within" would be available to bring to the Conference but, unfortunately, this was delayed. However, he did sign postcards for those who wanted one (that would be me too) so all was not lost.
Geraldine Beskin, from the oldest independent occult bookshop, The Atlantis Bookshop, offered a table filled with a vast and varied array of Tarot delights for us all to drool over, buy and treasure.
The only complaint i have is that it goes by much too quickly and then it's time, once again, to say goodbye with lots of hugs, and to begin counting the days until next years meet up with my "Tarot Family."
Kim you are a star and an amazing lady! I'm proud to call you my friend.
If possible, the 2018 UK Tarot Conference promises to be even more of a "not to be missed" event with two of the Speakers being, Drum roll........Benebell Wen and Rachel Pollack! To find out more and to book your place visit http://tarotconference.co.uk/tarot-programme/.
